Boy Scout Camping Equipment

boy scout camping equipment
Light backpacking/survival camp dinner?

Boy scout troop going ‘survival’ camping. its really light backpacking . Need ideas for dinner. Cooking equipment: Propane backpacking stove, small pot, spoon, alum. foil lid.

If it’s survival backpacking… have them find their own food in the woods. Nature can be a virtual buffet. A scout leader should have a guide book just to double check that the scouts are actually selecting edible plants. You can teach them all you can about survival/forraging techniques but until they actually have to do it for a meal or two, they won’t really learn it.

A Scout Is…

$16.46

With a forward by Zig Ziglar and endorsements by Tom Ziglar, Pat Williams (of the Orlando Magic) and CEO Michael Norton among others, A Scout Is… explores the impact of the Boy Scouts of America organization and scouting on the lives of successful men across the country. The truth is, we all need tools that will energize us and propel us into the winner’s circle. A Scout Is… captures the essence of Boy Scouting and the characteristics that continue to produce winners in life Author and Eagle Scout Todd Shaw explores the influence of Scouting and the principles that are found in the Scout Oath and Law: principles that define why the Boy Scouts of America has had such a huge impact on our society for 100 years. A Scout Is… includes Shaw’s own stories and those from others who have experienced the Scouting way of life such as legendary drag racer "Big Daddy" Don Garlits and Dirty Jobs own Mike Rowe. Shaw is a master storyteller. He’ll have you laughing and reflecting as he shares: The twelve character traits that can strengthen you throughout life; the importance of duty to God and country and of service to others; and the challenge of passing the values and virtues of Scouting to the next generation.

Brownsea Island Scout Camp

Brownsea Island Scout Camp

$105.14

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Brownsea Island Scout camp was a boys camping event on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, southern England, organised by LieutenantGeneral BadenPowell to test his ideas for the book Scouting for Boys. Boys from different social backgrounds participated from 1 August to 8 August 1907 in activities around camping, observation, woodcraft, chivalry, lifesaving and patriotism. Recognised as the worlds first Scout camp, the event is regarded as the real origin of the worldwide Scout movement. Up to the early 1930s, camping by Boy Scouts continued on Brownsea Island. In 1963, a formal 50acre (200,000 m2) Scout campsite was opened by Olave BadenPowell, when the island became a nature conservation area owned by the National Trust. In 1973, a Scout Jamboree was held on the island with 600 Scouts Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 132 Publication Date: 2009/12/11 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.30 inches

A Boy Scout (in most countries simply a Scout) is a boy or a girl, usually 11 to 18 years of age, participating in the worldwide Scouting movement. Because of the large age and development span, many Scouting associations have split this age group in a junior and a senior section. Boy Scouts are organized into troops averaging twenty to thirty Scouts under guidance of one or more Scout leaders. Troops subdivide into patrols of about six Scouts and engage in outdoor and special interest activities. Troops may affiliate with local, national, and international organizations. Some national Scouting associations have special interest programs such as Air Scouts, Sea Scouts, outdoor high adventure, Scouting bands, and rider scouts. Some troops, especially in Europe, have been coeducational since the 1970s, allowing boys and girls to work together as Scouts. Yawgoog Scout Reservation

$90.81

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Yawgoog Scout Reservation (Camp Yawgoog) is a 1,800acre (7 km2) reservation for Scouting located in Rockville, Rhode Island and operated by the Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Founded in 1916, Yawgoog is the fourth oldest continuously run Scout camp in the United States. It runs an eightweek summer camping program every summer where Boy Scouts stay for a week with their troops. The Reservation is divided into three camps: Camps Three Point, Medicine Bow, and Sandy Beach. Generally each camp offers the same programs and experiences. In 1916 Scout Executive Donald North, after inspecting some twenty lakes in Rhode Island, recommended the deserted Joseph Palmer farm property on Yawgoog Pond as a permanent reservation for Scouting. The 150acre (0.6 km2) piece was leased to Rhode Island Boy Scouts (RIBS) in 1916 and purchased in 1917. Yawgoog and Wincheck, according to local tradition, were the names of two Narragansett Indian Chiefs. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. The Scout

The Scout

$3.95

Epic in scope and grand beyond our imaginings. "The Scout" continues the magnificent story that began the highly acclaimed novel "Brules." In his stunning new novel, Harry Combs recreates a time when the West was the white man’s greatest challenge and the red man’s last battleground… a towering tale of dreams unfettered, of mustangs running free, and of young men riding hell-bent-for-leather into Indian country for no other reason than they were young, brave and wild. By 1900 the Old West was vanishing, but the man many called its fastest gun was still alive. By then Car Brules had shut himself and his secrets away in a cabin on Colorado’s Lone Cone Peak. Only one person knew his real story, a boy of eleven who became his friend and heard his extraordinary tales in 1909. The Scout is that unforgettable story, just as young Steven Cartwright heard it, just as Brules told it: hard and gritty, wry with a cowboy’s humor, and true to the spirits of all those who loved the west–and died for it–from Custer to Crazy Horse. Many hard, hurting things had driven Cat Brules to become the man he was. The death of his beloved Shoshone bride, Wild Rose, was one of them. Months after Brules lost her–brutally and far too soon–Wild Rose still came to him in his dreams. With a void in his heart and a reckless spirit, Brules signed on as a Scout for General George Crook, whose cavalry was headed into the Badlands. Then, the U.S. Army still didn’t know that there were fifteen thousand Sioux and Cheyenne in those Wyoming foothills, and under chiefs Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, every one of them was willing to fight to the death to live free. Brules’s account of the violence that ensued, told with eyewitness immediacy and chilling authenticity, is one of courage and shame as he rides the trail toward the Little Big Horn and the battles that followed. Seeing for himself the dying of a way of life, Brules tells a searing truth about America’s history: the betrayal of Custer to the Sioux, the hunting of Geronimo, and the U.S. Army’s cruel pursuit of Chief Joseph and his Nez Perce. And here too are the women who loved Brules: White Antelope, the gentle Indian maiden who wanted what Brules felt he could never give again–and Melisande, the saucy Mormon girl who might be too much for even Cat Brules to handle. Debunking the myths of the Old West and the romanticism of movies, renowned Western writer Harry Combs creates a vision at once more complex, magnificent and genuine–from the make of the rifle to the caliber of the bullet that cut Custer down. A novel unmatched in excitement and adventure, The Scout lets you smell the cordite, feel a man’s hard need for a woman, and discover that the real flesh and blood inhabitants of those legendary days were tougher, bolder and more fascinating than we ever dared to imagine.

The Chaplains at Hale Scout Reservation

The Chaplains at Hale Scout Reservation

$15.94

Chapel Services have always been an integral part of the camping experience for Boy Scout Camps, but at some camps the Chapel Services seem to ebb and flow, dependent upon if, and who, the camp was able to recruit to be the Chaplain. This book is the story of how a new program at Camp Tom Hale in Oklahoma was able to change a daily attendance at chapel from a handful of scouts to an attendance that sometimes has as many as 400 scouts and leaders. You will learn here how the program was turned around and you can read about some of the short devotions and how they are presented. The messages and the presentations bring the scouts and leaders back bright and early each and every day of the week long camping experience. You will find these devotions not only exciting reading, but also helpful in using or creating your own devotions for Sunday School classes, children’s sermons, and other religious group gatherings.

Lightweight Camping and Stock Equipment

Lightweight Camping and Stock Equipment

$28.67

Customer interest has led to a wide array of low impact, lightweight, durable outdoor equipment. Manufacturers of camp and stock equipment provide outdoor enthusiasts with a large selection of products. Choosing the best equipment may be a confusing task because of the numerous styles, materials, manufacturers, and prices. Equipment must be adequate for the intended purpose, be environmentally appropriate, and be affordable. This guide highlights some of the products available for well-run wilderness camps and stock operations. A basic premise of low-impact recreation is the need to reduce the number of stock required to support an activity. The ability of humans and pack animals to carry equipment or supplies is generally limited by bulk and weight. Comparatively light equipment that disassembles or collapses can significantly reduce the impact associated with transportation. This guide is organized into two sections – camping equipment and stock equipment. Each chapter has general product information, safety and use tips, and advantages or disadvantages of the various materials and technology available.

USS Boy Scout (Sp53)

USS Boy Scout (Sp53)

$58.94

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles USS Boy Scout (SP53), a woodenhulled motorboat that served as a section patrol craft, was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for the Boy Scouts of America and by extension for Scouting throughout the world. Her keel was laid down in 1916 at Lynn, Massachusetts, by Britt Brothers. She was acquired by the United States Navy from Albert Geiger, Jr., of Brookline, Massachusetts, and classified as a section patrol (SP) craft. Initially assigned to First Naval District New England, Boy Scout was given the hull classification symbol SP53 and was shipped overseas for aviation service perhaps, in view of her speed, for use as a crash boat at a naval air station. However, records of her operations and ultimate fate have not survived. The 19200701 edition of Ships Data, U.S. Naval Vessels described Boy Scout as overseas but did not state where, only adding the curious notation that she was not definitely accounted for, and in the absence of further reports will not be listed hereafter. It is a descendant of BadenPowells original handbook, Scouting for Boys, which has been the basis for Scout handbooks in many countries, with some variations to the text of the book depending on each countrys codes and customs. The original edition of the handbook was based on BadenPowells work. Ernest Thompson Seton combined his Woodcraft manual, the Birch Bark Rolls, with BadenPowells Scouting for Boys. Subsequent works were done by other authors. William Green Bar Bill Hillcourt wrote the 6th, 7th, and 9th editions. Frederick L. Tom Slade, Boy Scout

Tom Slade, Boy Scout

$19.49

Tom Slade, Boy Scout is the first volume of the Bridgeboro Series, a forgotten gem of American fiction. Written in 1915 when the Boy Scout movement was new, the book glows with the freshness of the movement and the optimism of an age when everything seemed possible. Young Tom Slade is a latterday Huck Finn, always in trouble. Everyone expects him to grow up to be as worthless as his father. Connover Bennett is a latterday Little Lord Fauntleroy, whose sheltered upbringing leaves him without skills or sense. What will it take to make something out of this unpromising material? A miracle not being available, the task falls to the Bridgeboro Scouts. Percy Keese Fitzhugh wrote dozens of Bridgeboro Scouts novels, including nineteen Tom Slade books. The main characters are based on real people, giving the books an authenticity unusual in juvenile fiction (or any fiction). The selfreliant boys are reminiscent of the heroes in Robert A. Heinleins early fiction (not surprising because both authors work was serialized in Boys Life ). Look for many more Tom Slade books from Norton Creek Press.
